Second International Conference on Dubbing and Subtitling in a World Context

14 - 16 December 2007

Dubbing and subtitling are important shaping forces in many cultures, and raise interesting questions about identity, language and power in an increasingly intertwined world. We invite scholars and professionals to give a 20-minute presentation on any topic relating to:

l    Theories (e.g. corpus, discourse analysis, gender, genre, globalisation, localisation, multilingualism, multi-culturalism, nationalism, dubbing vs subtitling)
l    Professionalisation (e.g. status, training, guidelines, ethics)
l    Technology (e.g. translation software, real-time subtitling)
l    Different types of audiovisual translation (e.g. news, sitcom, animation, documentary, science fiction film, children’s film)
l    Education (e.g. language learning through subtitling)

Conference language: English

Abstracts of 300 words should reach us by 15 August, and full papers by 17 October. Correspondence should be addressed to Yau Wai-ping at wpyau@arts.cuhk.edu.hk
