States television between September 1967 ?March 1968. It received very
good ratings, and was extremely popular with viewers in the States
and in the UK (where I live), where it was aired in 1968.
However,  it unfortunately never made it to a second series, due to its

violent for the times in which it was being shown.
Its most recent re-run in the UK was in 1989, and it was aired on
the GoodLife TV Network in the States in the late Nineties, but
nothing since then. However, as you can see, it still has a very
loyal fanbase over thirty years on from its inception, and we are
very pleased that it is being watched and enjoyed in both China

meeting with Ron Harper, Saler presented him with copies of a
couple of episodes which had been dubbed into Chinese. He went home and
played them on his DVD and was absolutely delighted to see himself
speaking in Chinese!

Summary: Dull, Routine WWII drama from producers of Combat!
Combat! went off the air in 1967 after a successful, five year run. Garrison\';s Gorillas, also from Selmur Productions, took over Combat\';s same time period on Tuesday nights on ABC. Where Combat had a great character actor in Vic Morrow leading a strong supporting cast, Garrison had Ron Harper in the lead, and by time he got to the Planet of the Apes TV series some years later, he was still just as wooden and one dimensional as he is here. Only Christopher Cary and Cesare Danova(you know him as the mayor in Animal House) are any good acting-wise, and the writing wasn\';t nearly good enough for a show that was TV\';s attempt to cash in on the success of The Dirty Dozen, released the same year. CBS\';s take on the genre, Jericho(1967) was slightly better but was also filmed on the same MGM back lot just like Combat and Garrison\';s Gorillas were. By now you would see the same sets and backgrounds on three different war shows. And by the late 60\';s war was a little too real on the evening news and these type of WWII shows looked unrealistic and had run their course. Garrison\';s Gorillas was canceled and replaced by The Mod Squad in 1968.

It was \';Gorrillas\'; because they were hoods. Of course it was a play on \';guerillas\';. There were two versions of the pilot. One that featured the Combat! cast in cameo appearance and one with other actors in the roles. If the series had not sold it would have been the last episode of \';Combat!\';, as \';Combat!\'; apparently was not being picked up because everybody\';s contract was up and ABC didn\';t want to give them raises. In the summer of 1968, \';Garrison\';s Gorillas\'; was the number one show in the ratings during the weeks of the political conventions because of NBC & CBS\';s \';gavel to gavel\'; coverage of the conventions. 1968 was the year ABC stopped doing \';gavel to gavel\'; and now none of them do.\';Garrison\';s\'; was also one of the first US programs to be syndicated to China and was a bit hit. Ron Harper\';s other fan favorite show was \';Planet Of The Apes\';. See the pattern.\';Apes\'; is out in real DVD. \';Garrison\';s\'; was shown on the Goodlife Network awhile back and is out there in the collector to collector market along with the alternate pilot. 27 episodes counting both pilots. 1968, because of the Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King killings was the last year the networks did shoot-em-ups. Good ones anyway. Reruns of the \';Wild Wild West\'; and the \';Man From Uncle\'; were also banned later because of the toning down of \';violence\';.

There are several web-sites around that have lots of information about \"Garrison\';s Gorillas\" and they all seem to feel that there are no really good copies available on a collector to collector basis. One site said there were some in China but of very poor quality. At least I saw no information on how to get them.

这部片子在中国有这样的成功与当时中国的时代背景是分不开的。
同志们可以放心，“盖尔森”中尉至今健在，并且仍从事演员工作——《感动》（2005，拍摄中）中饰演“Dr. Daniels”、在《哥拉思陷阱》（2004，后期制作）中饰演“汉克”。
